The choice was informed by my teaching circumstances, hence the inclusion of solo sonatas which can serve for the study of figured bass, and the Ariadne Music which can connects forward to Bach\u2019s Well-tempered Clavier and back to a tradition of \u201clabyrinthine\u201d compostions in the 16th century, such as Willaert\u2019s chromatic duo and Phinot\u2019s \u201cPater peccavi \/ Quanti mercenarii.\u201d I\u2019ll add to this as and when.
